Calcined Pearl Oyster Shell (Muthuchippi Parpam): A Siddha Marine Remedy for Musculoskeletal Disease Treatment and Management

Marine raw drugs hold a significant place in Siddha medicine due to their unique properties. The importance of marine natural products (MNPs) in drug discovery, particularly their role in creating current medications, has been well documented.Marine environment offers a diversity of ecological resources comprising of aquatic plants and animals.Marine species are the most current source of bioactive natural compounds compared to terrestrial plants and non-marine microbes.Marine biological calcium is an abundant resource that is generally accepted and has a complex active structure. The source of calcium includes calcium carbonate ores, calcium rich animal skeleton, marine shell and crustaceans. One among the marine shell is Pearl oyster shell which is traditionally used in the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases, respiratory illness, and ano-rectal diseases. This study aims to review the Siddha marine based formulation Muthuchippi parpam for the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases.
