The results showthat pure ZnO has a band gap energy of 3.1 eV, while ZnO which has been doped with 20% CuO andadded 1% additive has a band gap energy of 2.37 eV. In addition, the degradation results show that ZnOdiopinated with 20% CuO and the addition of 1% MEA in visible light has an efficiency of 51.7% and UVlight has an efficiency of 43.1%.

Abstract

Methyl Orange is difficult to degrade, to overcome this problem the photocatalyst method is used.Semiconductors can be used as catalysts, ZnO has a high band gap so that its photocatalytic activity is notoptimal. Doping and additives can be added to ZnO. Doping using CuO and adding the addictive substanceMonoethanolamine (MEA) can reduce the band gap energy of ZnO. This research focuses on determiningthe effect of the use of CuO doping and the addition of MEA additives on the band gap energy of ZnO. Theaim of this research is to see the difference in band gap energy of pure ZnO with ZnO doped with CuO andthe addition of MEA. To synthesize CuO doped ZnO and add MEA using the sol gel method.Characterization of the Diffuse-Reflectance Spectrometer (UV-DRS) to see the band gap energy andcharacterization of the UV-Visible Spectrometer to see the degradation of methyl orange.
