Relación entre los trastornos del sueño y la diabetes tipo 2 en pacientes adultos de 18 a 64 años de la Unidad de Medicina Familiar No. 40

Type 2 diabetes is a prevalent chronic disease affecting more than 350 million people worldwide. In addition to its well-known complications, such as cardiovascular, renal and neuropathic problems, it is frequently associated with sleep disorders, which often go unnoticed or are considered normal, despite their negative impact on health. Insufficient or non-refreshing sleep can significantly impair quality of life and even contribute to the development of metabolic disorders. There is a bidirectional relationship between poor glycemic control and sleep disorders: diabetes can alter sleep, and inadequate rest can hinder disease control, generating a vicious cycle that complicates both treatment and proper patient management. This situation underscores the importance of a more comprehensive care and the implementation of changes that improve sleep quality, especially in patients with diabetes.
