Vuxna anorexiapatienters upplevelse av bemötande inom hälso- och sjukvården
Background: Anorexia nervosa is a serious psychological illness with high mortality rate and known for phobic reaction towards weight gain, along with psychological and physical complications. Some patients experience ambivalence regarding the illness and treatment, in turn making treatment difficult. Sociocultural factors such as beauty ideal could be perceived as risk factors for developing the illness. Finally, one of the biggest obstacles in treatment is the stigmatization of patients within anorexia healthcare. Purpose: The aim was to describe adult anorexia nervosa patients’ experiences of treatment within healthcare. Method: This literature study had a descriptive design. Ten scientific qualitative article was searched and taken from the medical database PubMed and Cinahl, which was then assessed using SBU: s quality assessment tool. The articles were then analysed according to Popenoe’s analysis method. Result: The results showed that many patients felt that care was largely prioritized around weight and physical symptoms, while individuals' mental and emotional needs did not always receive the same attention. It emerged that an empathetic and person-centered approach could have a significant impact on how care was perceived. The study's results were summarized in four main categories: focus on the disease rather than the person, person-centered care, needs that must be met, and inadequate treatment. Summary: In summary, the results emphasize the importance of person-centered care. The results could indicate that there is an increased need for improved understanding and a more empathetic approach in the care of patients suffering from anorexia nervosa.
