Bara en chef : En kvalitativ studie om första linjen chefers organisatoriska och sociala arbetsmiljö

Abstract Titel: A qualitative study of the organizational and social work environment of first-line managers in special housing in Western Sweden Author: Josefin Nilsson Supervisor: Petter Falk Background: The study aims to find out how first line managers view their work environment and how they approach the demands placed on them in their work. First-line managers have a complex position in the organization. They have demands placed on them by politicians, employees, users and their relatives. They are constantly forced to balance demands from employees and with failing budgets and political decisions. Theory: Karasek and Theorell (1990) with their demand-control-support model, a model that is used to study the psychosocial work environment. There we can see that the more decision-making and action space and self-control an individual has, the better she is at handling psychological demands. The model also shows that we can have high demands and function well, but then the support should also be high, negative for health is if our work situation is tense and we have poor support. KASAM is a concept coined by Aron Antonovsky and aims to ensure that if an individual understands events in life in a healthy way, that the individual feels that she can face situations in life in a constructive way. That the individual feels a sense of belonging and social togetherness with other people at work and in leisure time. If the individual has these abilities, she is considered to be able to cope with life's trials better. Conclusion: The results of the study show that despite all the demands a manager has on their job, few managers actually quit their assignments. I have also observed during the course of the study that these managers are very dedicated to their work and they feel that their efforts are meaningful and that it outweighs all the demands placed on them. But something that most managers in my study seek is the lack of administrative support, someone to help with the administration.
