Implementation Of In-Shoe For Real Time Diabetic Foot Ulcer Detection

Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFUs) are a severe complication of diabetes mellitus, often leading to infections and amputations. Elevated plantar pressure, particularly in patients with peripheral neuropathy, is a major risk factor. This work presents a low-cost, wearable in-shoe system for real-time monitoring of plantar pressure. Four FSR-402 (Force sensitive resistor) sensors are embedded in an insole to detect pressure at critical foot regions. The analog signals are conditioned using an LM358 op-amp and then processed by an Arduino Uno. A calibrated pressure threshold of 200 kPa, mapped to analog values (500–750), is used to detect risk levels. A DHT11(Digital Humidity and Temperature) sensor monitors temperature and humidity, while a 128×64 OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays real-time data. Upon exceeding safe thresholds, an LED (Light Emitting Diode) and buzzer alert the user. Powered by a 3.7V Li-ion battery with TP4056 charging, the system supports portable, continuous foot health monitoring. This prototype aims to assist in the early detection of DFU, with low cost and easy availability.
