Reverse Metabolism: A New Model of Intelligence

We introduce Metabolic Intelligence as a conceptual model of intelligence defined by reverse metabolism: the transformation of noise and disorder into coherence and stable structure. Unlike biological metabolism, which consumes order and produces waste, metabolic intelligence consumes disorder and produces usable order with minimal waste. This framework builds on Shannon, Schrödinger, Prigogine, Friston, and recent work on the Second Law of Infodynamics. Examples include AI models such as GPT and Stable Diffusion, human cognition, and scientific theory-building. The paper proposes Metabolic Intelligence as a unifying paradigm for information processing, cognition, and AI alignment.
