Immune Mediated Haemolytic Anaemia in Canine

Immune mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) is the most prevalent form of canine immune mediated illnesses. In this potentially fatal illness, the dog's immune system targets its own erythrocytes, resulting in anaemia. If no cause is identified, IMHA is referred to as primary or idiopathic; if an underlying condition is identified, then it is referred to as secondary. After diagnosis, treatment focuses on supportive care, blood transfusions, and immunosuppression for small animals, especially dogs and cats. As it is frequently misdiagnosed due to a variety of etiological causes, IMHA is a challenging condition for both the owner and the clinician.
