Entrepreneurship and Vocational Education: A Panacea for Un-Employability of Nigerian Graduates

Nigeria, a developing country with huge resources (both human and material) at her disposal yet she has been ranked among the poorest nations in the world largely due to human factors. This has led to social problems such as poverty, mass unemployment, crimes of various degrees, illiteracy, inadequate health care system, political instability etc. This paper is of the opinion that training students sufficiently in entrepreneurship and vocational education can lead to unemployment reduction and self-reliance in the country because they offer many opportunities for the recipients of this education for self-employment and employment of others. Indeed, with adequate training in entrepreneurship and vocational education, a trainee can always transfer skills to related vocational areas in a gainful manner. It is against this background that this paper examines the concepts of entrepreneurship and vocational education and how this type of education can lead to self-reliance. The paper concludes and recommends that the government should take pragmatic steps towards incorporating entrepreneurship education in the curriculum of vocational and technical education at all levels of education in the country.
