Engine Oil: Proper Selection and Usage to Prolong Engine Life in Rural Communities
This article presents guidelines for the proper selection and usage of engine oils to extend engine lifespan, particularly in rural communities where access to maintenance services may be limited. The discussion covers different oil types (mineral, semi-synthetic and fully synthetic), viscosity classifications under SAE standards and quality evaluation under API standards, as well as practical recommendations for oil change intervals. Field-based product analyses, including Shell Helix variants, are also examined to compare their suitability for diesel and gasoline engines commonly used in rural settings. The findings highlight that proper engine oil selection not only reduces wear and maintenance costs but also enhances travel safety and ensures long-term engine durability.
