Improvement of productive traits of pigs with using of modern breeding methods

Recently, the importance of using selection techniques based on a combination of marker and index selection in pig breeding is obvious. The purpose of the research was to improve the productive traits of pigs of Duroc breed with using modern breeding methods. The object of the research was pigs of Duroc breed. Genealogical analysis was carried out based on the information from the database of the Complex of programs ACC (Selikom LLC). New data were obtained on the polymorphism of the POU1F1/RsaI, MC4R/TagI and LEPR/HpaII genes in the population of Duroc pigs. Homozygous and heterozygous genotypes with fattening and meat traits of pigs were compared. The eff ect of diff erent allelic states of the POU1F1/RsaI, MC4R/TagI and LEPR/HpaII gene loci on the productive traits of pigs was revealed. A method for consolidation of breeding lines has been proposed allowing to create competitive animals that meet the standard of paternal lines and are capable of consistently transmitting high productive traits to their off spring. Test systems have been developed to determine the polymorphism of the POU1F1, MC4R and LEPR genes that aff ect fattening and meat traits of pigs. Selection indices for selecting boars, sows and replacement young stock have been developed allowing to optimize the assessment of the breeding value of animals. An algorithm for the “index assessment” module of the ACC computer program. The economic efficiency from the development and implementation of innovative breeding methods showed that per 1000 sows of Durocbreed the profit received from the implementation of research results during the study period was 27,214 thousand rubles, and the profitability level was 25.05 %.

The purpose of the research was to improve the productive traits of pigs of Duroc breed with using modern breeding methods. The object of the research was pigs of Duroc breed. Genealogical analysis was carried out based on the information from the database of the Complex of programs ACC (Selikom LLC).
