Índice de Preços: fator decisório do investimento na cadeia produtiva da tilápia

The present article aimed to develop a Tilapia Price Index (TPI), based on the price variation concerning the tilapia production chain, to serve as a tool and alternative for investment decisions in the sector. To elaborate the index, price surveys were conducted regarding the tilapia production chain from Aug/22 to Aug/23, consisting of the following groups: earthmoving, slaughterhouses and warehouses, fingerling suppliers, feed suppliers, and equipment. In the calculation, the Laspeyres index method was used, which proved to be the most suitable. To ascertain its consistency, the calculated index (TPI) was compared with the National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), which serves to measure the official inflation in Brazil. The calculation result for the analyzed period revealed an index of 1.0841, indicating a price variation of 8.41%. This index is higher than the price variation in Brazil, measured by IPCA during the same period, which was 4.61%. This considerable difference between indicators allows us to point out the magnitude of growth in the tilapia market, which presents itself as conducive to investments in the sector.
