The relationship between humanity, love, and war is deeply rooted in the depths of history. These two forces influence each other, though each has its own language and weapons. As literature mirrors the movement of society, it has reflected war as an instinctive phenomenon inherent in humanity, intertwined with feelings of love that it affects and is affected by, showcasing the manifestations of love and war in various literary genres. This research, therefore, was undertaken to examine the nature of love within a specific temporal condition—the time of war—and to trace its impact, along with war, on the spatial dimension. This is examined according to the nature of characters whose destinies are shaped by a pressing external reality, in contrast to others who possess an internal force, almost a torque, that confronts this reality, either succeeding or failing in their goal. What I aim to illuminate in this research is not merely the act of writing about love in wartime, but rather the novelistic works that approach love in wartime by Rashad Abu Shawar and Ernest Hemingway, viewed through the manifestation of the elements of time and space. Abstract
