Evolutionary Psychoanalysis: Integrating Freud's Mind with Evolutionary Biology (V2.0)
This paper presents Evolutionary Psychoanalysis, an integrative framework combining Freudian psychoanalytic theory with evolutionary biology. Human behavior is largely shaped by genetic hardwiring, while the environment modulates expression rather than overriding predispositions. Survival and reproduction account for the majority of human behavior (~60–80%), with stochastic variation, minor mutations, and environmental nuances explaining the remainder. The ego, superego, and unconscious drives function as evolved adaptive mechanisms, mediating between genetic imperatives and environmental contingencies. Empirical support comes from fMRI studies, epigenetics, behavioral genetics, cross-cultural surveys, and Libet-type experiments. Ethical implications are addressed descriptively, emphasizing evidence-based approaches to punishment and rehabilitation without normative moralization.
