Effect of Polymer Materials on Antimicrobial Activity

Within a medical setup, using materials might cause them to attract bacteria, resulting in associated infections within medical devices. Hence, it is beneficial to preparing materials with antimicrobial properties. There is a need for antimicrobial materials for nosocomial and other applications. Various composite materials have been suggested. Gram-positive and Gram-negative strains were employed to examine the bacterial activity of various polymeric composite samples with formulated antimicrobials, either synthetic or natural. Two microbial agents, or synthetic; triclosan and one natural; Manuka oil were used in this study.
