Monitoring of Grid Connected Rooftop Solar PV Plant by Internet of Things (IoT)

An installation of rooftop solar PV system is the most promising option toreduce the cost of power followed by manufacturing cost as well as mitigation ofRenewable Power Obligation for industries, but there are challenges to monitor the realtime system parameters, actual power generation, plant efficiency, working status ofequipment of the plant due to its location on rooftop. In this paper, detailed engineeringhas been done for implementation of IoT to monitor the 1.43 MWp rooftop solar PV plantinstalled on industrial shed. The flow diagram, hardware requirement and softwareplatform for implementation of IoT is discussed in details. This will facilitate historicalanalysis of plant performance, performance evaluation, fault detection and real timeanalysis of the plant. This paper also contains technical specifications of each component ofrooftop PV plant and IoT platform to monitor the plant.

Abstract

An installation of rooftop solar PV system is the most promising option toreduce the cost of power followed by manufacturing cost as well as mitigation ofRenewable Power Obligation for industries, but there are challenges to monitor the realtime system parameters, actual power generation, plant efficiency, working status ofequipment of the plant due to its location on rooftop.
