Abstract This research paper explores how urban realities and the notion of Indian identity intertwine in the poetry of Nissim Ezekiel, one of the foremost figures in Indian English literature. Through critical analysis, thematic illustration, and close reading of selected poems, the study highlights how Ezekiel captures the complexities of city life, alienation, personal dilemmas, and the quest for identity in the Indian context. Emphasizing his craft, linguistic choices, and representational strategies, the study foregrounds his contribution to modern Indian English poetry as a chronicler of urban experience and cultural hybridity. Keywords: Urban poetry, Indian identity, Bombay, alienation, modernity, allegory, microcosm, etc.
