Hur upplevs makt och auktoritet? : Elevens och idrottarens upplevelse av institutionell makt och auktoritet i svenska skolor och idrottsföreningar, en jämförelse.

This quantitative paper studies the perceived difference in power and authority between two Swedish institutions of learning, the public schools and voluntary sports associations. All from the perspective of the pupil and athlete. The theoretical framework behind this paper is Max Weber’s theory on power and authority. The paper found that the leaderships apparent authority in sports is powerful but positive, that the apparent authority in schools is perceived as more neutral or divided, that the coaches have more impact on how athletes think and act, more so than the teachers have on pupils. Participation is perceived stronger in sports than in schools despite the Swedish school’s democratic mission and finally, that the relationship to authority is strongly influenced by free will.
