Sobre racismo e terapia: Convites construcionistas sociais de uma psicóloga negra
Considering the social constructionist emphasis on the interface between microsocial processes and macrosocial discourses, this article aims to invite my fellow psychologists and family therapists to reflect on racism and therapeutic practice. This is done by means of a dialogue between theory and my lived experience as a Black professional in a predominantly white environment. To this end, I offer three complementary invitations, based on social constructionism. In the invitation to a historical perspective, I investigate the social construction of racism and its impacts on our society, especially considering our clinical practices. In the invitation tothe construction of preferred identities, I analyze how racial issues participate in the sense of identity of therapists and clients. In the invitation to dialogue, I reflect on ways of producing fertile contexts for constructing meanings and transforming our practices in anti-racist directions.
