In the diverse palette of regional schools and movements historically formed in the traditional domestic temple building, a special place is occupied by the peculiar wooden churches of Pohorynia – one of the oldest areas of origin in the north-west of Ukraine. The most important feature of this territorial association is that its historical basis was a unique union of several small appanage principalities, which was formed along the ancient Pohoryn route in the early Middle Ages. Despite the special historical and cultural significance of Pohorynia, the current ideas about the original building culture of this region are limited to only a few small studies. Perhaps the most illustrative in this respect is its southern part or Verkhnie Pohorynia, the architectural heritage of which is reflected only in brief descriptions of individual monuments in several encyclopedic reference books. The lack of purposeful research of the architectural heritage of this region is primarily due to its location at the junction of three adjacent historical areas of Ukraine - Galicia, Volyn and Podillia. However, it is this peculiarity of the formation of the original building culture of Verkhniy Pohorynya that allows us to trace in it the characteristic manifestations and mutual influence of various regional schools of Ukrainian architecture. From the point of view of the ancient origin of Pohorynnia and adjacent territories, of particular interest in the study of this phenomenon are the oldest chronological monuments of wooden architecture, which have been preserved in the region and are represented by several temples of the 17th – First Half of the 18th Century. Summing up a comprehensive comparative analysis of the latter, it should be noted that despite the small size of Verkhniy Pohorynia, the traditional temple building of the region is not homogeneous. Undoubtedly, the main reason for this phenomenon is the location of the studied historical area at the junction of Volyn, Galicia and Podillia, which could not but affect the mutual influence and complex interweaving of various local schools and trends in the architecture of Pohoryn churches. It is this factor that has determined the decisive place of established, historically conditioned territorial traditions in most studies of Ukrainian architecture and, above all, traditional domestic church building. At the same time, recorded on the material of the Dubno group of trees of the 17th – First Half of the 18th Century. the peculiarities testify to the complex, hierarchical nature of the territorial organization of the peculiar building culture of Verkhniy Pohorynia, requiring further research of this phenomenon using a wider range of historical sources and analogues.
