Upplevelser av Personcentrerad vård på akutmottagning : - En kvalitativ litteraturstudie ur ett patientperspektiv
Background: Person-centred care means seeing the whole person, not just the illness. This means that healthcare workers should personalize care and show genuine interest in every unique patient. Previous research shows that nurses in emergency departments often focus on patients' urgent medical needs, which can lead to the person-centred approach being overlooked. High workloads and lack of time can make nurses feel like “machines,” preventing them from delivering the person-centred care they aim for. When attention is directed toward acute medical needs and there is limited time for individual patients, the delivery of person-centred care may be compromised. Aim: The aim was to describe patients’ experiences of person-centred care in the emergency department. Method: A qualitative literature review with a descriptive analysis of ten articles. Results: The findings revealed two main themes, each with two subthemes. The first theme was the importance of dignity in care, with subthemes: the importance of being seen as a person and the importance of fair treatment. The second theme was the importance of collaboration between patients and healthcare staff, with subthemes: the importance of communication and the importance of trust in the healthcare staff. Conclusion: Patients’ experiences of person-centred care in the emergency department were strongly influenced by how staff communicated and interacted with them. Positive experiences occurred when patients felt seen and acknowledged. In contrast, negative experiences were linked to time pressure and a lack of person-centred focus. Improving care requires greater awareness of how to adapt communication to meet each patient’s individual needs.
