Utveckling av verkstadslayout

This bachelor thesis was carried out in collaboration with Eqpack AB, a packaging company based in Eskilstuna, and explores how small enterprises can enhance their production efficiency through improved workshop layout and the application of lean principles. The study is motivated by the company's upcoming relocation, emphasising the need for a more streamlined production flow. Using a qualitative case study approach including interviews, observations, and tools such as value stream mapping (VSM) and visual components, two layout proposals were developed -tailored to both current and future production scenarios. The findings demonstrate that simple lean tools such as 5S, when combined with a strategically designed layout, can lead to significant improvements in workflow, waste reduction, and productivity-without requiring major investments. The outcome includes actionable layout optimization proposals and strategies for SMEs to gradually implement lean thinking for sustainable competitiveness.
