Transformación digital de la gestión del agua: avances en ciudades de países en desarrollo
This study analyzes the impact of digital water initiatives on water management and urban sustainability in cities across Latin America and Africa. In a context where challenges such as climate change and population growth coexist, these technologies emerge as key tools for optimizing water resources. The main objective is to verify how various digital solutions can transform water management systems and urban sustainability through the use of smart sensors, monitoring systems, technologies for controlling wastewater quality, rainwater management, distribution, and crisis management. A systematic literature review was conducted and integrated with data analysis from studies developed in cities with varying levels of technological infrastructure and access to water resources. The results indicate that digital technologies have the potential to significantly reduce water losses, improve the operational performance of systems, and increase crisis response capacity. Cities with more advanced technological infrastructure achieve better outcomes; however, barriers such as the need for investment in research and development, political stability, and access to funding were also identified. The study concludes that incorporating digital technologies into water management policies promotes sustainability and urban resilience in the face of global challenges such as climate change and population growth. This study highlights and encourages digital initiatives designed to be replicable and flexible across different regions, minimizing their impact while maximizing their reach.
