Utveckla metoder för att studeravätediffusion i koppar : En jämförelse av praktik och simulation
This study has evaluated methods for investigating hydrogen diffusion in copper, a critical materialused for nuclear waste storage and as a barrier in the final disposal of nuclear waste. Hydrogenis known to negatively affect metals by altering their microstructure and mechanical properties, making it essential to understand how hydrogen diffuses and is retained in copper. Experimentally, ion implantation with deuterium a stable isotope of hydrogen was used to distin-guish implanted material from naturally occurring hydrogen. The implantation was carried out ata room temperature of 22°C to minimize thermal effects and ensure controlled diffusion. Analysiswas performed using Time-of-Flight Elastic Recoil Detection Analysis (ToF-ERDA), which enablesquantitative and in-depth measurement of hydrogen concentrations. Simulations were conductedusing the SRIM software to model ion penetration depth and damage cascades in the coppermaterial. The simulation results showed that temperature has a significant impact on the extent of diffusion. At higher temperatures, diffusion accelerates, leading to greater depth distribution, while lowertemperatures limit the spread. The maximum diffusion depth was observed to be approximately0.5 μm after five hours at low temperature, which is consistent between experimental data andtheoretical calculations. Analysis of the sample surface composition revealed no significant differences between coppersamples taken from different parts of the material, although minor contamination was noted asa potential artifact from sample preparation. ToF-ERDA proved to be the most effective prac-tical method for detecting light elements and contaminants, while SRIM provided cost-effectivepreliminary predictions. The combination of ion implantation, ToF-ERDA, and SRIM simulationsconstitutes an effective approach for understanding hydrogen behavior in copper.
