Un hombre necesario: Emilio Alarcos Llorach

This paper offers an academic overview of the intellectual career of Emilio Alarcos Llorach (1922-1998). For this, his main publications are taken into account —from Investigaciones sobre el Libro de Alexandre” (1948) to La poesía de Blas de Otero (1997)— attending to his main contributions in the fields of study of grammar, history of language and literary studies. His integralism stands out, manifested in his ability to brilliantly cultivate different areas of philology, and his condition as a non-regulatory grammarian, since he maintained a tolerant and non-catastrophic vision of linguistic facts, reluctant to excessive interventionism.
