Undersökning av gemensam plattform för samverkan inom Industriell och Urban Symbios : Perspektiv inför införande på Västra mark i Växjö
Research indicates that the climate crisis poses an increasing threat to societalstructures, human living conditions and biodiversity. To adress this challenge is thedevelopment of a circular economy crucial. Industrial and urban symbiosis (IUS)represents a resource efficient system in which by-products are exchanged betweenstakeholders to reduce waste and promote sustainable development. The effects of IUS also generate social and economic value. The aim of this study is to qualitatively investigate how a shared platform for IUS can be implemented effectively. Identification of risks and challenges is also investigatedwith the potential implementation of such a platform in Västra Mark, Växjö.Interviews have been conducted with representatives from established IUS initiatives,Växjö Municipality and companies located in Västra Mark. The study is conductedto support Växjö Municipality ́s potential future establishment of an IUS initiative. The results indicate a current lack of operational platforms for IUS. Effectiveestablishment and management require financial resources, access to information andactive engagement. A shared platform is considered to have significant potential tooptimize IUS processes. Key success factors include long-term governance, financialsupport and trust among actors. Västra Mark shows potential for implementationthough demonstrated openness to information sharing and collaboration. The absenceof a long-term implementation plan and driving stakeholder represents a barrier. The findings clarify desirable platform functions and Västra Mark ́s conditions forpotential implementation. Further development should involve informationalmeetings with additional companies, appointing a responsible coordinating actor andapplication for project funding.
