Sostenibilidad ambiental de la minería de caliza en La Guajira, Colombia

Currently, mining-industrial activities related to limestone rock are experiencing continuous growth. However, this development has caused significant impacts on natural ecosystems. The objective of this research is to examine environmental sustainability in companies producing derivatives of the mineral resource in the south of the Guajiro territory to propose methods of balance in the environment. The methodology is descriptive, with a non-experimental approach. As the main tool, an instrument structured in two dimensions and eight indicators is used, oriented to the analysis of the nominal variable sustainability; complemented with field observation to collect information. The results show a disarticulation between the production phases and the principlesof sustainability. This is due to the absence of viable actions that promote local development in environmental terms, which generates significant impacts, especially on soil and air resources, due to the intensity of exploitation. These effects also havenegative repercussions on human health. Therefore, it is concluded that mining organizations are currently not associated with the demands of environmental planning instruments, with a deficiency in the implementation of strategic plans focused on the useof natural resources, inferring in the consolidation of a environmentally sustainable culture.
