Representaciones sociales sobre el cuerpo en estudiantes de Licenciatura en Educación Física de la Universidad de San Buenaventura de Medellín, Colombia

Introduction: The body as a unit of study has been presented as a polysemic and multidisciplinary construct, difficult and complex to grasp when it comes to talking about it. Objective: To understand the social representations of the body held by a group of Bachelor of Physical Education students from the University of San Buenaventura in Medellín, Colombia. Methodology: The investigation was carried out from a qualitative, type study of case, where, based on interviews, 25 students were asked about their perceptions, knowledge, beliefs and opinions about the body. Results: The results indicated that the social representations of the students investigated lean towards a traditional position, where the organic and biological body tends to be the most expressed, this is the result of the influences derived from the training process, especially of the biomedical areas; However, there were also expressions that account for a sensitive body, anchored to the logic of affects, aesthetics and experience. Discussion: The body is presented as a multifaceted issue that can hardly be resolved from a single perspective, and training processes transform notions about it. Conclusions: The body is claimed as a functional unit, a perspective from which it is difficult to escape, without implying renouncing the subjective connotations that it brings to be an object of study in the field of physical education and the future teachers of the this discipline.
