In Search of Antimicrobials in Staphylococcus aureus

Antibiotic resistance poses a concern to global health because it makes diseases more difficult to treat, increases the chance of fatalities and major complications, compromises the efficacy of medical treatments, and permits the spread of resistant bacteria. In this research, I collected soil from my backyard, serially diluted it, and cultivated soil bacteria in the lab. The isolated individual colonies were then tested against the safe relatives of ESKAPE pathogens and learned that one of the twelve microbes cultivated had a zone of inhibition against Bacillus subtilis that is related to Staphylococcus aureus. To determine what type of microbe JJ25A1 is, I will amplify its genome using a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
