Pushing Back Human Rights: The Impact of Spain’sImmigration Policies onAsylum Seekers
This thesis exposes an urgent need to rethink - or even reform - the Spanish governments’ asylum policies. Through the exploration of official documents, reports from organizations specialized in the topic of migration, interviews with experts, case studies, the thesis manifest the incongruity of the current Spanish asylum policies, as these do not align with the human rights the state so promotes. The main objective is to put on evidence that certain practices and laws violate the fundamental rights of the asylum seekers, as well as to encourage a critical reflection on the paper States have regarding the protection - or lack of - these rights.
