Programa Yo Leo implementado por el Ministerio de Educación y su aplicación en las instituciones del Sur de Quito: Implementation of the 'Yo Leo' Literacy Program by the Ministry of Education and Its Impact on Schools in Southern Quito
This study addresses two main questions. The initial inquiry is: Is the "Yo Leo" program being implemented in educational institutions? This is followed by a related concern: What strategies do teachers use to effectively promote reading motivation? The study focuses on teachers in the city of Quito who teach in the Basic General Education level, specifically in the middle level. The objective is to determine whether the "Yo Leo" program, implemented by the Ministry of Education, functions as a reading promotion strategy that, through the use of active techniques, fosters a love of reading among students. The theoretical framework was developed using online databases. The resources were searched in ERIC (Educational Resource Information Center), ProQuest-CSA, CSIC (Humanities and Social Sciences), and repositories such as Teseo and Tesauro. This research follows a quasi-experimental design. Data were collected through an online survey consisting of ten closed multiple-choice questions, administered to the target group of teachers via Google Forms and distributed through email. The results show that most teachers are unfamiliar with the guidelines provided by the Ministry for the development of the reading project known as "Yo Leo." Furthermore, there is a general lack of actions and strategies aimed at promoting reading, and many of the surveyed teachers do not have a regular reading habit. The study concludes that the implementation of this program must be strengthened through a multidisciplinary approach
