Photosynthesis response in elicited tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) plants to identify eustress or distress: first approach
Elicitor application to plants has been used to induce them to produce secondary metabolites. Depending on elicitor dosing plants may present eustress or distress. In this study we presented a first approach to study the effect of elicitors on photosynthesis of tomato plants and used it as an indicator of stress. Salicylic acid and hydrogen peroxide were used in three doses vias foliar and radicular pathways. Photosynthesis was evaluated using a chamber where a whole plant was enclosed and CO2consumption was measured over time. CO2consumption curves showed a linear behavior, changes in the slope indicated low or high photosynthetic plant activity. Photosynthesis may be used as a plant stress indicator in precision agriculture
