“Omnes esse beati volunt” (Confessiones 10,23,33). Augustine on Happiness
In this article I present a survey of Augustine's development with regard to happiness. I show how the young Augustine was quite confident about the human beings' capacity to reach happiness through his/her own efforts. However, Augustine gradually became aware that this claim was not true and thus he developed his view on this matter, emphasizing that because of human beings' weakness true happiness is a gift that will fully be received in the life to come.
