Nuevas perspectivas sobre la Filosofía Mexicana
During the last decades, the controversy over the existence of “Philosophy in Mexico” has resurfaced. In addition to universalism and particularism, there is an issue that appears repeatedly in this controversy: that of the distinction between “Philosophy in Mexico” and “Mexican Philosophy”. However, not everyone means it the same way. Thus, for Aureliano Ortega, there has been a “Mexican Philosophy” in terms of a dispersed philosophy; for Mauricio Beuchot, there has been and can continue to be a “Mexican Philosophy”, in the sense of an analogical universalism (in the effort to rethink Hegel’s concrete universalism); Guillermo Hurtado, for his part, proposes talking about a practical meta-philosophy, to address the issue; and, finally, Carlos Pereda suggests that, to talk about “Mexican Philosophy” in good terms, it is necessary to change a vice, that of nationalist enthusiasm, for a virtue, that of responsible nationalism.
