Research question: In what ways does motivational cultural intelligence influence clarity among team members in hybrid, multicultural teams at IKEA? Purpose: This study aimed to explore how motivational cultural intelligence (MCQ) influences communication clarity among team members in hybrid, culturally diverse teams at IKEA. Method: A qualitative approach was used, based on semi-structured interviews with nine employees working in culturally diverse and partly virtual teams. The data was analyzed thematically using a deductive framework grounded in Self-Determination Theory. Conclusion: The findings show that individuals with high MCQ are better able to navigate cultural differences, clarify misunderstandings, and adapt their communication styles. Meeting psychological needs such as autonomy, competence, and relatedness supports this motivation and leads to clearer, more inclusive communication in hybrid work environments.
