Ley General de la Alimentación Adecuada y Sostenible: Nueva Política Pública para la Seguridad y Soberanía Alimentaria y Nutrición en México
The General Law on Adequate and Sustainable Food (LGAAS) represents a new public policy for food and nutrition security in Mexico, focusing on guaranteeing the right of all citizens to nutritious, sufficient and quality food. Enacted on 17 April 2024, this law incorporates principles of environmental sustainability and respect for cultural diversity, in line with international human rights standards. It seeks not only to improve public health through equitable access to healthy food, but also to promote sustainable agricultural practices and strengthen the country's food sovereignty. Through coordination between federal, state and municipal authorities, and the active participation of civil society, the LGAAS aims to transform the Mexican food system, with an emphasis on equitable food distribution and food education. Its implementation will face challenges such as adequate resource allocation and effective inter-institutional coordination but is expected to have a significant impact on public health and environmental sustainability in the long term
