Las disparidades en la producción industrial colombiana 1995-2018
Based on information regarding the industrial manufacturing production in Colombia from 1995 to 2018, this article estimates the probability and number of years required by companies and regions to reach more productive states, with the purpose of assessing whether industrial policies have contributed to widen or hinder production-related concentration levels, through Markov chains and the Theil index. The results show that the least productive companies have a 528-year gap compared to their more productive counterparts. In the case of regions such as La Guajira and Sucre, there is a gap of 289 years which confirms the existence of enormous gaps in Colombian industrial manufacturing production. Furthermore, the Theil estimation in intra and interindustry level showed that industrial policies (IPs) have driven the increase of production concentration in terms of company and territorial scopes.
