Just war theory has a long history, both based on Christian premises and more recent additions by other intellectuals, like Walzer. Taken as a whole, applying the parameters of this theory to the war in Ukraine demonstrates the illegitimacy of the Russian invasion, despite the geopolitical and, in any case, preventive motives alleged by Putin. Nevertheless, the article highlights better argumentative options that could have been better exploited by Putin. It also reveals that there are reasons to believe that the war has become unjust on both sides
