Inventory Tracking System

The project will target the three big issues that the Kennesaw State University Textile Department is currently facing. The first is real-time tracking of inventory. We want to create a system that tracks how much inventory is always available to be used, and how much depletes each time a student/ faculty member uses a product. As restocking finished items is a long process, low stock alerts may help combat wait times. This system tracks when an item is running low and is able to send out low stock alerts in order to avoid shortages and make repurchases easier. The second problem is low availability of fabric. Many students are required to purchase their own materials for their projects. By collaborating with different local fabric manufacturers, we can streamline their procurement and create a reliable system where material is donated to the department when fabrics are no longer marketable. The third problem faced by the department is managing the fabric waste produced by the department. Fabric waste is a growing problem globally with approximately 34 billion pounds of fabric being discarded each year. 66% of US landfills are filled with textile waste which can take over 200 years to decompose. In order to bring down the amount of fabric that will end up in a landfill, we would like to partner with companies around the United States that accept fabric waste and reuse them in items like bedding and other projects.
