Interculturalism, ethnicity, and multilingualism in upper secondary school : An analysis of opportunities and obstacles in organisational and practical activities with newly arrived migrant students
The study aims to gain new insights into interculturalism, ethnicity, and multilingualism in upper secondary schools, focusing on newly arrived students. Data was collected in Sweden through documents, field notes, and ethnographic interviews. The analysis reveals that interactions between students and teachers create a dynamic where students are seen both as successful and as marginalized. This dual representation affects their social pedagogical identities, portraying them as either developing positively or as disadvantaged and excluded. This negative portrayal likely hinders the school's goal of integrating newly arrived students into the community and society.
