The article aims to investigate how the notion of ‘crisis’ is represented in pre-modern Arabic literature through the analysis of al-Faraj baʿd al-shidda (Deliverance Follows Adversity) by al-Tanūkhī (d. 994). After some brief lexical considerations and the presentation of author and work, the lexicalisation, semanticisation, categorisation and conceptualisation of the notion of ‘crisis’ expressed therein will be investigated
