Interest in scientific research has declined in recent times due to many circumstances, among professionals in the city of Quito it has not been an exception, since after their university training it is believed that their graduation work is the last scientific work they have done without knowing the usefulness in their professions of any branch of science, that is why in this research we want to know the level of interest in scientific research by Quito professionals, this research is exploratory and with a qualitative approach, it was carried out through a survey on the Google Forms platform, with a non-probabilistic sample for convenience, the questions have two dimensions, intrinsic and extrinsic, of the Likert scale type. The results were descriptive and consistent with Cohen's Kappa coefficient, which revealed that the level of importance of scientific research for professionals was 74% and that their level of interest in research is to learn about other professions or sciences, and this also depends on whether this generates economic income for them, which motivates them to practice research. It is concluded that they may be unaware of scientific research due to the stereotype that it is moderately difficult and that it does not generate interest due to not receiving greater economic and business benefits in organizations.
