Har Sociala Medieföretag en skyldighet att ”devalvera” källor till misinformation?

Misinformation is a big issue on social media. A common intervention is removal, or “banning”, of user accounts on social media that are responsible for spreading misinformation. However, banning has a mixed track record when it comes to effectiveness, and is often accused of violating rights to freedom of expression. I don’t find any such violation of freedom of expression, but take its mixed track record as enough of a reason to look at an alternative solution, namely source devaluing. Instead of banning accounts, we simply lower the visibility of their past and future posts if they’ve been found to spread misinformation. By utilizing this, I hope to have an effective intervention that avoids the mixed track record of banning. Further, I don’t merely want to provide a solution, but argue that social media companies are obligated to implement source devaluing in the case of misinformation. I also see some implications of my proposal in the case of the “traditional news” media.
