The present paper is a brief reflection on factors of discrimination and social exclusion of people who have contracted the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) but who have not necessarily developed acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The first part touches on some aspects related to diseases that throughout history have been accompanied by stigma and prejudice and the second part addresses the situations of discrimination that these same people face despite the laws that have been established to eliminate it and despite also the more than 40 years that have passed since the appearance of the HIV virus and the first deaths from AIDS.
