Expediente de limpieza de sangre de Jhoseph de Godoi i Villalba, natural de la villa de La Guardia Obispado de Jaén, año de 1646
The cleanliness of blood files were an administrative appeal from different institutions such as civil, religious, military, university and local ones, which main priority was to control the access from every individual who tried to do so, to a position in the administration, having to prove their “cleanliness of blood”, meaning that they were an old Christian in opposition to the new Christians (those who have been recently baptised and therefore of dubious faith). They were shameful controls from the moment they were put in practice: racists, antichristians; files that were against every evangelical principle and there was awareness of it both amongst jewish and christians. They were not generally applied neither in time nor in the whole of the administration, they were a resort that was hidden inside the drawer to put it into practice if needed. Appeals that assaulted and blocked specific social strata, and that were preventing the newcomers, the converted jews, to access the Church. These appeals blocked their socialfueron u integration for centuries, from the XVI to the XIX century. A request to remove them with the advent of the Inquisition was generalised in the State administration, there was an attempt, during the reign of Carlos III, just as with the Inquisition, but they had to wait for their abolition until 31 January 1835. It lasted until 1859 for the army officers.
