Abstract

This communication highlights the educational and cultural potential of an extracurricular drama activity with a Greco-Latin theme. Working with secondary school pupils of this specific type makes an important contribution to their all-round education. In a playful, voluntary environment outside school hours, pupils can enjoy the staging of the great Greek and Roman classics. Their plays, besides being the fundamental substratum of modern theatre and cinema and a unique introduction to the world of the stage, are authentic open classrooms for group reflection on important issues, such as peace, dignity, justice, money, love, solidarity... A continuous drama activity can contribute to the development of the student’s communicative competence, as well as being an interesting contribution to others such as personal, social, civic or even emotional competence.
