Exploring Bacteria for Antibiotic Resistance
Antibiotic resistance is a growing problem that makes it harder for current antibiotics to work effectively in the human body. Finding new antibiotics is crucial for treating bacterial diseases that are resistant to existing treatments. To search for new antibiotics, I collected a soil sample from my garden and screened several soil microbes for their ability to produce antibiotics. After testing multiple microbes, I identified one with promising antibiotic activity. Using genetic and metabolic approaches, the selected microbe was further studied. This research could lead to the discovery of new antibiotics, which would help fight antibiotic-resistant infections and improve treatment options for serious bacterial diseases.
