Developing microalgae-based cell culture media:A step toward sustainable cultivated meat and milk production

Microalgae are single-cell organisms rich in nutrients such as amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. These nutrients in microalgae can be released through direct hydrolysis of whole biomass. To develop a microalgae-based cell culture media for cultivated meat and milk production. The acid and alkaline hydrolysis of microalgae resulted in varying compositions of glucose and amino acids in the hydrolysates, showing that the choice of hydrolysis condition influences the composition of these key nutrients. This information is crucial for optimizing hydrolysis conditions to achieve a hydrolysate composition comparable to that of commercial cell culture media.Furthermore, this research paves the way for developing sustainable, cost-effective culture media with potential applications in biopharmaceuticals, cellular agriculture, and regenerative medicine.
