The article analyzes the competences developed by undergraduate students in the Animal Science Course at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC). Documentary analyses, bibliographical research, interviews with the Coordination of the Undergraduate Course in Animal Science at the Centro de Ciências Agrárias were carried out and questionnaires were applied to students who completed all mandatory subjects, as well as to graduates in the period from 2021/2 to 2023/1. The results highlight the need to update the Pedagogical Project of the Course with competences not foreseen in the National Curricular Guidelines, yet necessary for the professional development of an animal scientist, as well there's a call for promoting activities in the Program that enable the development of these competences. Furthermore, the results suggest a necessary revision of subjects and activities related to competencies assessed to a lesser extent, review optional and mandatory subjects and promote more practical activities by the Course Coordination.
