Eficacia y seguridad de la terapia con oxígeno sobresaturado en el manejo del infarto agudo de miocardio
Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a critical medical condition that has a devastating impact on public health and healthcare systems; therefore, it is imperative to address new approaches and treatments that can improve clinical outcomes and reduce the burden of this disease. Supersaturated oxygen therapy has emerged as a promising potential intervention in the management of AMI. The aim of this study is to analyse the efficacy and safety of supersaturated oxygen therapy (SSO2) on morbidity and mortalityin patients with AMI. A literature review was performed, based on articles from high impact journals relevant to the objective. Multicentre, randomised studies, such as AMIHOT I, AMIHOT II and IC-HOT, demonstrate that the efficacy and safety of SSO2 therapy is superior in the management of AMI compared to standard treatments, since the success rate is greater than 98%; the direct benefits are that the mean infarct size decreases, the ST segment is restored and the incidence of post-infarction heart failure is lower, while the adverse effects of the therapy are minimal (<8%). In conclusion, the administration of SS02 therapy in the management of AMI is effective and safe according to the objectives to which the nature of the therapy refers, as it has been shown to reduce short and long term morbidity and mortality.
